Counterfeiting is increasing rapidly, and major eCommerce players like Amazon and Alibaba are facing it and recognizing it. In the pursuit to solve the counterfeiting problem, Amazon launched its Anti-Counterfeiting solution “Amazon Transparency” in the US in 2017. They have now brought it in Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, and India.

Amazon Transparency solution aims to fight the counterfeiting problem by providing unique codes to product brands for each of their product items.

NeuroTags works on a similar principle by providing two algorithmically linked unique serialized codes, which are monitored by AI system on the cloud. This unique combination eliminates counterfeiting and connects end users to brand, opening up an effective digital marketing channel.

We did a quick analysis and below are our findings of NeuroTags solutions compared to Amazon Transparency

As per our understanding, the following are a few shortcomings for brands using  Amazon Transparency.

Control is in Amazon’s hand

Amazon transparency solution is completely Amazon centric instead of the brand, which is employing Amazon Transparency service.

No user data is available for brands

Amazon does not provide users data to the brands. Since the codes are applied to all the product items irrespective of whether the product is being sold through Amazon or not. So if the brands can get the data about the scan patterns, then they can use this precious data to make critical business decisions. 

User data is invaluable in this age of digital innovations, but brands don’t get to know who all are scanning the product codes to check authenticity. 

Essential Data analytics missing for brands

Data analytics is helping brands in many ways, such as mitigating risks, anticipating business needs, improving business efficiency, serving buyers with more personalized offerings. To achieve the benefits of data analytics, brands need to grab all the opportunities to collect the buyers’ data and apply analytics on it. But with Amazon Transparency, brands are not getting their buyers’ data and the prospective buyers who showed interest in the product.

Can be implemented for specific countries

As of now, Amazon Transparency solution can be used only in Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, and India. It can not be used in other countries. So if a brand is facing counterfeiting problem in a country which is not listed here, they can not use Amazon solution there.

Brands’ consumer data may help Amazon’s Private Labels

As Amazon collects the consumer data of all the brands that enroll for Transparency solution for their products, even from the offline, they would be equipped with better insights to launch similar competing product lines of their own.
